Monosodium Phosphate (NaH2PO4, MSP), also known as anhydrous monobasic sodium phosphate, is used as a laxative and, in combination with other sodium phosphates, as a pH buffer.
The pKa is 7.20. The sodium chloride equivalent value, or E-Value, is 0.49. It is soluble in 4.5 parts water. Monosodium phosphate is most commonly available as colorless crystals or a white powder. It is insoluble in alcohol.
Monosodium phosphate is used in animal feed, toothpaste, evaporated milk. It is also used for water treatment to boiler, as buffering agent to acidity, detergent, cleaning agent, dyeing flux, for tanning and electroplating. For food additive it is mainly used as buffering agent, emulsification agent, nourishment, etc. Gerald F. Judd, PhD wrote a book, Good Teeth Birth to Death, which is well documented, and gives instructions for the use of monosodium phosphate to restore tooth enamel.
